Plumbers fall under the general guise of contractors in West Virginia, which means that if you are thinking about becoming a plumber in this beautiful state, you have a standard two tier licensing system. In West Virginia, you can qualify as a journeyman plumber or a master plumber.

In order to obtain your journeyman license in the state, you must be able to demonstrate 8,000 hours of plumbing experience or other related experience by another licensed professional. You must then pay the $42 exam fee and upon successful completion of the exam, pay a $75 licensure fee that renews yearly.

The master license is similar to the journeyman license. You must have 12,000 hours of plumbing experience and be able to show competence in training others. The exam fee and licensure fee for a master plumber are the same as a journeyman.
